What if a Volkswagen Bus was used as a time machine in Back to the Future instead of a DeLorean?
Yes, we can’t imagine the iconic film without the gull-winged, stainless-steel bodied car, but NFL cornerback Cortland Finnegan did, and that’s how this 1967 Volkswagen Bus came to be.
The idea behind it was to build a car that embodied the spirit of the movies, so Finnegan commissioned BLVD Customs to use their imagination in order to create a one-of-a-kind machine, inspired from the trilogy. And as the DMC-12 was played out, this Bus seemed like an original approach.
Upon completion, the car was presented with a stainless steel vinyl wrap, which mimics the DeLorean’s body, and gull-wing styled doors, although the Volkswagen still retains the stock sliding side door.
Inside, the car has been remodeled and refurbished, using a color scheme reminiscent of the Back to the Future logo. Moreover, the driver’s seat was transformed into a cockpit, equipped with a time machine module and flux capacitor.
Sure the BUS would’ve been a great time machine if somehow Doc Brown and Marty McFly traveled back to the groovy 70s, but thank God they didn’t. It probably wouldn’t have reached 88 mph (141 km/h) without some engine modifications anyway.
The car is currently listed for sale at Music City Motor Cars for $150,000, which raises the question why somebody wouldn’t buy a DeLorean (or two…) instead?
