Codenamed AM-RB 001, the new exotic has been secretly shown to a select last month, at the Monaco Grand Prix.

According to the Aston’s CEO, Andy Palmer, cited by Autocar, the models are made from clay or plastic at this stage, but in terms of appearance, they are “70 to 80 percent there“.

We have a full-sized model of the surfaces as they stand, which is going through regulatory validation, so we’re checking things such as seat position, eye position and visibility“, Palmer said.

Described as “extreme at many levels but the design” by the Aston Martin Design boss, Marek Reichman, the hypercar will be built in just 99 units, and due to homologation problems and limited production number, it will be sold in select markets only.

Technical details remain under the question mark at this point, but Andy Palmer said that it will have a mid-engine layout, while Reichman said that it will be hybridized and focus will remain at “weight and efficiency“. “So you can’t go too heavy on hybridization because then you’re carrying a bigger battery“, the brand’s design chief said.

With an estimated starting price of anywhere between £2 and £3 million ($2.8-4.2 million), the Aston Martin and Red Bull co-developed hypercar is expected to be slightly heavier than an LMP1 racer, which tips the scales at 900 kg (1,984 lbs). While an initial report hinted towards a summer unveil, new info states that it could be launched in mid-2018.
