Volkswagen has just freshened up the Beetle and Beetle Cabriolet range with a series of exterior and interior tweaks.
On the outside, the 2017 VW Beetle benefits from different bumpers across the Basic, Design Line and R-Line trims, along with tinted LED taillights, a choice of 17-inch Philadelphia and 18-inch Ravenna Adamantium wheels and two paint options called Bottle Green Metallic and White Silver Metallic.
Open the door and you will be greeted by the new dial, dashpad styling and brighter instrument panel on the Design Line and R-Line versions, joined by further individualization options comprising of three new upholstery materials and style packages.
The updated Beetle R-Line, previously known as Beetle Sport, can be had with the optional R-Line interior package, which adds special logos on the sill panel moldings and head restraints and sportier multi-function leather-wrapped steering wheel; it can also be ordered with Kyalami design textile seat covers or Vienna leather. Prices for the package are set at €895 ($1,000).
The engine choice remains unchanged, as the Beetle Coupe and Cabriolet can be had with three petrol units and two diesel burners, with outputs ranging between 105 PS (104 HP) and 220 PS (217 HP). Prices remain at the same level and start from €18,375 ($20,540) for the 1.2-liter TSI 105 PS Coupe, while the cheapest drop-top can be had from €22,800 ($25,485).
If you want your Beetle to stand out furthermore, then you can go for the Denim special model, based on the 1974 Jeans Beetle, which has a Stonewashed Blue Metallic paint finish, jeans-colored convertible roof and 17-inch Circle wheels, in Dark Graphite. Inside, it features sports seats with blue covers, storage pockets in jeans style and aluminum-blue matte-colored dashpad set. Prices for the special edition kick off at €23,600 ($26,380).
The refreshed Beetle family ends with the Exclusive models, available in both body styles, based on the Design and R-Line equipment lines, featuring Twister style black alloy wheels with bright machined surface, black dashpad, aluminum sill panel moldings with “Volkswagen Exclusive” lettering, Nappa leather on the seat center panels and side bolsters and the Cool Leather, which is said to maintain a low temperature even in sunlight. Prices for the Beetle Exclusive Coupe start from €24,200 ($27,050), while the Beetle Exclusive Cabriolet can be ordered from €28,550 ($31,910).
Joining the lineup by the end of the year will be the ALLSTAR special model, priced at €22,775 ($25,455), which stands out with the 17-inch alloy wheels in Linas styling and ALLSTAR lettering on the sill panel mouldings. This version will be equipped with dual-zone climate control, Composition Media radio system with navigation and “Beetle compartment”.
VW has opened the order books for the refreshed Beetle models, but the R-Line with the 220 PS top-engine will go on sale from mid-June. All prices are for the German market.
