Minimally camouflaged prototypes of the facelifted Mercedes-Benz S-Class don’t necessarily mean that the tweaked flagship will show its fresh design this year.
In fact, a new report coming from Mercedes-Benz Passion Blog indicates that the modified S-Class will celebrate its debut in March of 2017, and will arrive at German dealerships in August, the same year, sporting minor changes to the lighting units and bumpers on both ends, new alloy wheel choices and fresh colors.
Styling changes may be on a minimal level, but the powertrain lineup is expected to gain a new member, a six-cylinder diesel, codenamed OM 656, producing 340 HP and 700 Nm (516 lb-f) of torque. By comparison, BMW’s new 3.0-liter unit, with four turbochargers, powering the 750d xDrive, makes 395 HP and 760 Nm (560 lb-ft) of torque.
Other updates to the 3-pointed star’s sedan will include a new steering wheel, a larger set of displays, Merc’s latest infotainment system with updated touchpad controller, and the new Drive-Pilot semi-autonomous tech.
