The new wave of hot-hatching has given birth to full-fat monsters, producing in excess of 300 HP, but back in the 1990s things were simpler. Much simpler.
In 1992, having 126 HP on your supermini was deemed more than adequate, enough even to set a class standard, used for benchmarking beefy hatches to come. We’re talking of course about the “best hot hatch ever made”, the Peugeot 205 GTI, which in this particular purple guise is the perfect blast to the past.
This ultra-rare 1992 Peugeot 205 1.9 GTI, modified by renowned British specialist Dimma, has 66,000 miles (106,216 Km) on the clock, sports an eye-dazzling Metallic Purple finish, and is looking for a new owner.
Dimma applied its fiber glass body kit with deep side skirts, front spoiler, large rear wing and stainless steel exhaust to just over 250 units, making this one a pretty exclusive automobile. It even comes with a special plaque, attesting its status and authenticity.
Founded by British National Rally Champion Terry Pankhurst in 1986, Dimma UK became the importer for the 205 body kit from Dimma SA Belgiium. Over the years Peugeot Sport called upon the tuning company for assistance for various rally car projects, and the partnership and technology sharing between UK and Belgium was extended.
Today, you can get this car through Classic Car Auctions at a reasonable estimated price between £10,000 and £12,000 ($14,559 – $17,471), and general manager of Classic Car Auctions, Guy Lees-Milne said it’s a steal:
“Just to illustrate this, Dimma UK have just restarted production of a new build “Dimma 205 Signature Series using late 80s and early 90s Peugeot 205 GTIs at prices starting from £20,000 ($29,118). With this in mind, this car is certainly great value and we therefore expect a huge amount of interest.”
