The latest safety campaign conducted by Ford covers several units of the 2014 and 2015 MY Explorers that will have to be taken back to the dealers.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a total of 75,364 SUVs from the 2014 and 2015 MY are affected, including the Police Interceptor Utility Vehicles, manufactured between January 17 and May 31, 2014.
In these vehicles, the rear suspension toe links might have been improperly welded and may fracture, resulting in a loss of steering control and increasing the risk of a crash. Ford is currently aware of one accident and one injury related to this condition.
The automaker’s dealers are currently being instructed on replacing the rear suspension toe links, on the affected vehicles, free of charge. The recall campaign will begin this month and if you happen to own one of the 2014-2015 MY Ford Explorers, expect to hear from the Michigan-based manufacturer soon.
