Kia Motors America (KMA) has announced the introduction of the Apple CarPlay compatibility on vehicles equipped with navigation system or UVO.
The technology that links iOS smartphones to the infotainment is already available on the 2017 Sorento, which is the first Kia vehicle to benefit from it, and will be added to the 2016 Optima too.
Additionally, those who have previously purchased one of the two models equipped with navi or UVO3 will be provided with an update that will be available in the third quarter.
“Kia is taking the UVO platform to yet another level of enhancement by extending the customer’s personal mobility technologies safely and easily into a Kia vehicle. CarPlay will bring an additional element of convenience while maximizing the benefits of connectivity“, said the KMA’s Managing Director Connected & Mobility Services, Henry Bzeih.
With the Apple CarPlay compatibility, drivers and passengers can connect their iPhone into the USB port and access the device’s user interface through Kia’s UVO infotainment system. Users will be able to access music, make phone calls, send and receive messages and get directions optimized for traffic conditions. The technology also features hands-free support via Siri.
