Radio 2 DJ and presenter of the revamped Top Gear show, Chris Evans, admitted that celebrities like him are paid too much for part-time jobs that “people in the real world would pay to do”.

Evans’ statement comes after Culture Secretary John Whittingdale said that employees and freelancers earning more the £450,000 ($650,000) will have to be made public, but previous reports suggest that the rules would apply to anyone earning over £150,000 ($216,000), meaning that approximately 100 stars, including news staff and presenters, will have their earnings revealed, according to the DailyMail.

It’s not exactly breaking news that people who do what I do for a living, compared to people in the real world, get paid too much money. We’ve got jobs that people would kill for, we get to do things that people would pay to do if they could afford it and sometimes those things aren’t even available to buy. Most of us work part-time anyway, so just pay us less. That’s what I would do. It’s not rocket science“, Evans told BBCNews.

BBC will start airing the resurrected Top Gear show from May 22. Moreover, the latest episodes will be broadcasted on Netflix too, in an attempt to go head-to-head with the rival show coming from Amazon, The Grand Tour, hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond.
