Kia celebrates another milestone, as two million vehicles have been built in the United States ever since the automaker set up its operations in the country seven years ago.
The milestone vehicle is a 2016 Sorento SXL finished in white, that was assembled at at Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia (KMMG), which began mass production on November 16, 2009, following an investment of more than $1.1 billion.
“Assembling two million vehicles in less than seven years is a remarkable achievement, and one that each of our team members can take a lot of price in“, said the KMMG President and CEO, Hyun-Jong Shin.
Governor Nathan Deal commented: “Together, Kia and Georgia have a strong reputation of success. The company’s continued investment in the state speaks volumes to our pro-business atmosphere, and we will continue to support them as they grow here.“
KMMG is the South Korean brand’s first manufacturing site in North America and, together with its local suppliers, it’s responsible for creating more than 15,000 jobs in West Point and in the surrounding region. The facility, located on 2,200 acres, has an annual capacity of 360,000 units and it is home to the Sorento and Optima, two of the company’s best-selling models in the States.
