There are lots of things that you can buy for about the price of a Bugatti Chiron, including an island or Hennessey’s 1/4 mile dragstrip.
Located near Huston, Texas, on Interstate 10, the tuner’s “Lonestar Motorsports Park can be a petrolhead’s dream, especially as it comes “fully-loaded” with all the amenities a dragstrip should have.
Offered for sale on Racing Junk for $2.7 million, the facility includes 55 acres, enclosed air conditioned concession stands, grand stands with seating for 800, staging lanes, control tower, lights, timing equipment, fuel barn and more – as the ad says.
Still, bear in mind that the Hennessey Performance facility is not included in the price, nor is it for sale; but the track itself is enough to keep you fairly occupied because it’s currently fully operational and hosting events every month. For those willing to expand their business, the ad also states that the property could be enlarged to accommodate a road race course.
But why is Hennessey selling its “base of operations”? Because, according to John Hennessey himself – who was contacted by Jalopnik’s Black Flag for enquiries – “We’ve owned it about a dozen years and it’s worth more now.”
Furthermore, the tuning company’s CEO reportedly went on saying that there are no plans to move their main shop and they will still use the strip for testing. Hennessey plans to reinvest the money from the sale back into the business, aiming to take production from about 400 cars a year to more than 1,000.
