The beauty of Porsche’s 911 model is that it can be anything; from daily driver to rally car.
We tend to associate the iconic 911 shape and brand with a track-dedicated sports car, when in fact, even Porsche committed to rally the classic car with the 953-codenamed model. Nonetheless the rallying pedigree is still there, and this particular white example fully embraces its heritage.
Named the #Luftauto, the vehicle is Patrick Long’s team interpretation of a rally-style 911, designed to be both a daily driver as well as a capable off-roader. The vehicle was auctioned-off by RM Sotheby’s during the Luftgekühlt event – an annual meeting of air-cooled Porsches – for $275,000.
The price might be considered steep, especially for a converted 1985 911, but the work was done by the team of one of the 10 Porsche factory racing drivers, and all the proceeds went to the Autumn Leaves Project – a charity dedicated to funding pancreatic cancer research.
Moreover, the car is a truly bespoke piece of kit, overhauled with custom made parts, including powder coated front and rear bumpers, designed by Emory Motorsports and fabricated by Brian Coats Motorsports. The list of modifications is, as you can imagine, substantial, as the Porsche now comes with a KW Suspension custom-designed and hand-built long-travel dampers, SSi headers and sport exhaust, andCustom-designed hydraulic handbrake by Emotion Engineering and Emory Motorsport.
