Even before BMW pulled the covers off the new high-performance compact two-door, several reports claimed a hotter version is on the cards.

In all the buzz surrounding the reviews praising it, it’s probably been forgotten by all but the most dedicated Bimmer fans.

M Divisions engineers could have a surprise in store, for BMWBlog, quoting undisclosed sources, says an M2 CS / CSL is in the planning stage.

Info on the topic is cheap, as you might have expected, but if it should follow its larger brother, the M4 GTS, then it might benefit from aerodynamic upgrades, highlighted by the large rear wing, new bumpers and different alloys.

The 3.0-liter biturbo petrol engine of the “regular” M2 is believed to be upgraded to approximately 400 HP, up from 370 HP, with better brakes to match the extra oomph.

The M2 CSL might take on the Porsche Cayman GT4, which benefits from 380 HP, and also raise the bar for Mercedes-Benz and Audi and their CLA45 AMG and RS3 hot hatches.
