Kia will bring the new Optima Plug-In Hybrid for its European debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
The PHEV version of the mid-sized Kia sedan is the company’s first PHEV model, offering a 33-mile all-electric range and an estimated 37g/km of CO2 emissions.
The hybrid powertrain consists of a petrol 154hp (156PS) 2.0-litre GDI engine with a 67hp electric motor mounted on a six-speed automatic transmission. The combined output of the system is 202hp (205PS) and 276lb ft (375Nm) of torque.
The new Kia Optima PHEV can reach 62mph from rest (0-100km/h) in 9.4 seconds and onto a top speed of 119mph (192km/h). A 9.8kWh lithium-ion battery pack is placed under the boot which now offers 307lt of space. Top speed is limited to 74mph (120km/h) when in all-electric mode. Fuel economy is rated at a combined 1.7lt/100km NEDC which translates into 166mpg UK.
Kia has also improved the aerodynamic efficiency of the Optima PHEV by installing redesigned front and rear bumpers and a new active air-flap grille. These revisions reduce the drag coefficient to 0.25 down from 0.27 of the regular model.
Other features include the regenerative braking system and a new Coasting Guide function. Additionally, Kia has equipped the Optima PHEV with an advanced climate control system which allows a driver-only ventilation function to conserve energy.
The new Kia Optima PHEV will make its European premiere in Geneva Motor Show next to the all-new Sportswagon, with the car scheduled for launched across Europe in late 2016.
