The bold Lexus LC 500 has walked away with two EyesOn Design awards at the Detroit Auto Show.
While the Buick Avista claimed the award for design excellence for a concept car, the LC 500 won the award for design excellence for a production car as well as the award for the best interior design.
The awards are selected by design heads from various automakers and design chairs from a range of top art schools. Lexus previously claimed the EyesOn Design award for a concept back in 2012 with the LF-LC so it’s fitting the production-ready model of that car claimed the award at the 2016 Detroit show.
Chief designer of the LC 500, Tadao Mori said: “I am so honored to receive the EyesOn Design awards for best interior design and design excellence for the LC 500 from our designer peers. The LC 500 is a clear result of the passion, hard work and collaboration between the designers and engineers for the future chapter of Lexus.”
The Lexus LC 500 has arguably been the highlight of this year’s show, particularly thanks to its exterior and interior design, mimicking the original concept in a way most production cars fail to do.
Beyond the vehicle’s design, Lexus claims it is the firm’s most dynamic model since the Lexus LFA. Whereas the LFA utilised a high-revving V10, the LC 500 utilises the same naturally-aspirated 5.0-liter V8 as the RC F and GS F and therefore has 467 hp and 389 lb-ft of torque on tap. Mated to that potent powertrain is an advanced 10-speed automatic transmission which is said to be as fast as a dual-clutch setup.
