Land Rover announced the latest and youngest member of their Heritage model lineup, the original Freelander.
Being one of the firm’s best-sellers, the original Freelander was produced from 1997 to 2006, and was followed by the Freelander 2. With a decade passed after the end of the production run, the Freelander becomes the eight Land Rover model to join the Heritage department of the company, which is responsible for providing parts, services, even whole cars and driving experiences.
The original Land Rover Freelander was Europe’s best-selling SUV for five consecutive years, being one of the first premium compact SUV models in its segment, with advanced features for its time, like Hill Descent Control, viscous coupling and an ABS tuned for off-roading.
Land Rover will offer technical support to existing owners, including over 9,000 parts for the specific model in order to ensure that they will keep enjoying their car for many years to come.
“With the addition of the Freelander 1 as a Heritage model, Land Rover is reaffirming its support and commitment to its loyal customers by providing exceptional cars, services, parts and experiences for models more than 10 years out of production,” said Tim Hannig, Director, Jaguar Land Rover Heritage. “Genuine Land Rover Heritage Parts for Freelander 1 have been engineered and tested in extreme conditions. As such it gives our customers total peace-of-mind that their vehicles are maintained to the highest possible standards.”
The Freelander joins popular classics like the Land Rover Series I, II, III, the original and the P38 Range Rover and the Discovery 1 and 2.
