Prior to next month’s Detroit Auto Show 2016 kicking off in Motor City, Infiniti has taken the wraps off the 2016 model year QX60. While the 2016 Q50 will be the headline for the automaker at Detroit thanks to its new twin-turbo V6, the updated QX60 has the potential to be warmly received by customers.
The most obvious change for the 2016 Infiniti QX60 is the updated exterior design. The front end for example now includes a custom double-arch grille and as standard, incorporates bi-xenon headlights. Additionally, LED daytime running lights have been implemented has have new front fog lights and a selection of chrome touches.
Other changes include redesigned side indicators and taillights while the rear hatch receives new chrome trim with a BMW-esque shark fin antenna now incorporated into the roof. Customers can order their 2016 QX60’s in one of seven exterior colours; Black Obsidian, Hermosa Blue, Liquid Platinum, Majestic White, Graphite Shadow, Jade Green and Hagane Blue.
Beyond the new design, the updated SUV comes fitted with brand new shock absorbers and springs to not only improve ride comfort but also to reduce body roll during corners. The electric power steering system has also been fettled by Infiniti’s engineers to offer increased responsive. Interestingly, it now just requires 2.9 turns lock-to-lock.
Infiniti has also updated the Vehicle Dynamic Control system with it now working in conjunction with the Active Trace Control system to aid in greater handling by apply individual brakes when necessary and then smoothing out the torque characteristics of the various engines.
While speaking of engines, a 3.5-litre V6 comes standard with 265 hp at 6400 rpm and 248 lb-ft at 4400 rpm. The comfort of the 2016 QX60 has been further improved thanks to the implementation of revised engine mounts with this engine. Elsewhere in the range is a hybrid powertrain consisting of a supercharged 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder combined with an electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack. It offers 250 hp and 243 lb-ft.
Technology wise, the 2016 model year vehicle includes Infiniti’s personal concierge service, aptly named Infiniti Personal Assistant. Joining this system are the likes of Forward Emergency Braking which when necessary, applies the brakes in order to avoid hitting the car in front. Pedestrian Detection is also present as is an advanced setup to aid in parking, offering four wide-angle cameras to offer a birds-eye view of the parking area.
