The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu LT Hybrid is still a few months away from becoming available for order, but this didn’t stop GM from releasing new details on it, including its starting price.
The mid-sized model borrows some of the technology from the second-gen Chevy Volt and uses a 1.8-liter direct-injected internal combustion engine, mated to a two-motor electric drive unit, slightly tweaked, developing 182hp and returning a GM-estimated 48 / 45 / 47 mpg in city / highway / combined. On electric power, the Malibu Hybrid can go up to a top speed of 55mph (88km/h).
“The Malibu leverages knowledge and technology directly from the second-generation Chevrolet Volt. By leveraging technology, we are broadening our level of expertise and lessons learned to bring consumers a world-class hybrid“, said the marketing director of Chevrolet Cars and Crossovers, Steve Majoros.
Some of the standard features that come with the car include the MyLink Radio with a 7-inch color touchscreen display, a rearview camera, cruise control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, push-button start with passive entry and 10 airbags.
The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid also comes with the standard Lane Keep Assist, Front Pedestrian Braking and Low Speed Front Automatic Braking. All Malibu versions get the Teen Driver, a system that mutes the audio and any paired device when the front-seat occupants aren’t wearing their seatbelts and it also allows parents to view info on how their teenagers drove the car.
General Motors will offer the 2016 Malibu Hybrid LT from $28,645 and the model will become available next spring. The vehicle is built at the GM Fairfax Assembly facility, in Kansas City.
