The second body style of Volvo’s new flagship model will most likely be an estate dubbed the V90, with recent reports indicating a 2016 unveil.
Its development doesn’t come as a surprise, as the more practical version of the S90 was already leaked a few weeks back via scale models that were allegedly taken from a toy factory and shared through a series of photos.
What you see here, however, are renderings by RMcardesign that show a slightly different shape for the taillights, compared to the one seen on the leaked scale models. The roofline seems to be slightly lowered towards the rear and, besides the new body color, the five-door vehicle brings a new set of wheels.
Th differences stop here because the rest of the car is identical to the E-segment sedan, which will go on sale next year, after making its public debut at the 2016 Detroit Motor Show, in January. The S90 will compete against the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the Audi A6, the BMW 5-Series, Jaguar XF, Cadillac CTS and others.
The engine lineup includes the entry-level D4 with a 2.0-liter turbodiesel rated at 190PS, the D5 with a similar unit and 235PS and a 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged petrol burner, developing 320PS in the T6 version. Last but not least, Volvo will offer the T8 plug-in hybrid too, which uses the same gasoline engine combined with an electric motor for a total output of 407PS.
