Comparisons between supercars and superbikes have become so common that nowadays, these vehicles don’t only have to outperform their direct rivals but also their four-wheeled or two-wheeled alternatives.
Generally speaking, superbikes wipe the floor with supercars in straight-line drag races, particularly those from a rolling start thanks to their far superior power-to-weight ratios. On the other hand, high-performance cars often beat superbikes around racetracks due to their better braking and higher corner speeds.
What do you think would happen then if you were to pit a Porsche 918 Spyder against the latest Yamaha R1 (arguably the fastest road-legal track bike) around a racetrack?
Recently, GPOne did just that and while the resulting video is more of a promotional clip for Michelin rather than a timed track duel, it does highlight both the strong points and weak points of the two. On some of the straights, the R1 pulls away from its four-wheeled rival while under braking, the 918 closes up and overtakes.
As if by magic, the two cross the line at almost exactly the same time but for what the video lacks in a real result, it certainly makes up for with some stunning footage.
