Ford’s state-of-the-art +600hp GT supercar has been named the Official Vehicle of CES 2016, demonstrating the manufacturer’s commitment to the future of the automotive industry.
Those who hope to attend the January 5 event, should stake out Ford’s CES press day conference, which is set for 7:30 – 8 a.m PST on that particular day. Fans and media alike will find out more on location about Ford’s future plans, which include autonomous vehicles.
According to Ford, it was the CTA itself (Consumer Technology Association) that decided to name the all-new GT as the official show car for CES 2016, as it serves as a “technology showcase for top EcoBoost performance, aerodynamics and lightweight carbon fiber construction”.
Mark Fields, Ford president & CEO stated that his company was first in line to have a “significant presence at CES nine years ago, and we are proud to continue that legacy of innovation in 2016. As we move forward with our Ford Smart Mobility plan, CES is the perfect venue for sharing news on our efforts to change the way the world moves and provide new solutions in the areas of connectivity, mobility, autonomous vehicles, the customer experience and data and analytics.”
Raj Nair, the man that green-lit the new Focus RS, chimed in saying that the GT is the “ultimate execution of an enthusiast supercar”, while also mentioning the fact that his company is honored by the GT being chosen as official vehicle of CES.
Ford decided to ditch the 5.4-liter supercharged V8 unit of the previous generation car, in favor of a much more modern 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6, good for “over 600 HP”. Knowing these guys, the official horsepower figure might actually surprise us all.
