Not one not two, but six examples of the Porsche’s 918 Spyder were spotted driving together in Southern California.
The video was shot right after the Monterey Car Week, but it just made its way onto the web. It shows the hypercars cruising together and racing each other, a truly rare sight considering that only 918 units were put together by the German brand and, out of those, 297 examples ended up in the United States, making it the largest market in the world for the limited production exotic.
One of them is owned by entrepreneur and movie producer Alejandro Salomon. It boasts the Sticker City wrap and it joined the rest, which were fitted with the Weissach weight saving and aerodynamics package. The gathering revealed some interesting paint finishes and liveries of the convoy driving from Santa Monica to Newport Beach.
The Porsche 918 Spyder is the company’s answer to the Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren P1. It is a plug-in hybrid, using a 4.6-liter, naturally aspirated V8 and an electric motor in the back that also acts as the main generator, and two electric motors at the front for a total output of 887 HP (900 PS) and 940 lb-ft (1,280 Nm) connected to a 7-speed PDK. Reaching 60 mph from a standstill takes just 2.2 seconds and the top speed stands at 218 mph (351 km/h).
