The new Suzuki Ignis made its public debut at the Tokyo Motor Show, marking the return of the brand’s compact crossover.

Previewed by the iM-4 Concept at the Geneva Motor Show this year, the new Ignis will eventually go into production with the least amount of aesthetic changes given the very good response from the public.

Suzuki is getting ready to celebrate their 100th anniversary in 2020, bringing out concepts and production models that reflect the most active lifestyles and the new Ignis wants to be the compact crossover of choice for those seeking a small multi-purpose car sprinkled with a nice design.

Suzuki has yet to release any details on the technical details of the new Ignis. The iM-4 Concept was using a mild hybrid powertrain with a 1.2-litre petrol unit in its core, sending power to all four wheels. The only facts we know is that the new Ignis is based upon a new platform which could be related to one used on the new Baleno, Suzuki’s VW Polo rival.

If that’s the case, then we expect the new Suzuki Ignis to also share Baleno’s new turbocharged 1.0-litre ‘Boosterjet’ petrol unit. More info will follow as we have them.
