We’ve all seen that a decent van can, in fact, put down a respectable lap time around the Nurburgring north loop (Sabine Schmitz in the Ford Transit on Top Gear is just one example).
You can even start pressing regular cars, it seems, if you’re driving something like the short wheelbase Fiat Ducato you see in the video below.
It is very evidently glued to the back of the Citroen Saxo whose driver simply cannot shake off the van. This pressure looks likely to have caused or at least contributed to the loss of control and crash (looks like snap-oversteer was to blame).
The little Citroen looks a bit fidgety around the track compared to the Ducato which doesn’t even seem to roll through the corners all that much.
This is something you really don’t get to see every day – a stock van chasing a car around the Nordschleife and pressing that car’s driver into making a mistake while at the same time looking more composed and surefooted…
