Tens of thousands of Beijing motorists were stranded for hours on end in an incredible gridlock on Tuesday afternoon at the final day of China’s week-long National Day celebration between October 1 and 7 when over half the country’s population or about 750 million (!) people travel throughout the country.
The People’s Daily Online said that the several miles-long carmageddon on the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macau Expressway was caused due to a very narrow second checkpoint on the other side of the 50-lane wide tollbooth. We wonder who thought of doing that…
