SsangYong has announced it will showcase two concept models based on the Tivoli platform at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Called the XLV-Air And XAV-Adventure, the two studies are rather different in terms of relevance for production.
While the XAV-Adventure looks identical with the XAV concept unveiled earlier this year at the Seoul Motor Show, the XLV-Air is actually a pre-production model of the long-bodied Tivoli which will be launched early next year.
Compared to the current Tivoli, it offers increased luggage space and more practicality. Just like the Tivoli, it comes with a choice of 1.6-liter petrol or 1.6-liter diesel engines mated to 6-speed automatic (Aisin) or manual transmissions, and two- or four-wheel drive.
Design-wise, the XLV-Air looks pretty similar to the Tivoli, with the exception of a third lateral window that gives the profile a more elegant look. The bumpers and taillights are different as well.
As for the XAV-Adventure, SsangYong says it’s a reinterpretation of the Korando with a “masculine and modern touch.” The study is said to target active and young generations, offering “maximum drivability and off-road capability as a compact authentic SUV.” No word on production plans though.
SsangYong’s Frankfurt Motor Show stand will also include the Tivoli diesel, powered by a 1.6-liter Euro 6 unit that produces 115PS (113hp) between 3,400 and 4,000rpm and 300Nm of torque (221lb ft) at 1,500-2,500rpm. Offered with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard and a six-speed auto as an option, the Tivoli diesel returns 4.3 l/100km (65.7mpg UK) combined and 113g/km of CO2 in 2WD manual guise. 4WD models will arrive later this year.
