For the past century or so, the Bonneville Salt Flats have been synonymous with mad streamlined machines that defy physics and common sense. It’s a place that while flat and barren, is steeped in history and is still the scene of frequent speed runs in all manner of vehicles.
In order to understand what it’s about today, you need to hear the stories of the people who actively take part in events there, some of whom think things won’t stay like this forever – it really is a relic from the good ol’ days when neither health and nor safety were crucial…
Apparently, they’re expecting the place to eventually ban speed runs, as it will at some point somehow be deemed a safety liability.
The video posted here was created by Depth of Speed, which has since morphed into Petrolicious. It’s the same style of video you’re used to and in this case very nicely portrays a very dedicated and passionate community that has grown around the flats.
