Jeep executives have confirmed to Auto Express that a new compact crossover will debut at the Geneva Motor Show next year and will go on sale in Europe in early 2017.
Likely to be called Compass, the C-segment SUV will compete with models like the Nissan Qashqai, Kia Sportage and Mazda CX-5, among many others.
The new Jeep crossover will fill the gap between the Renegade and the Cherokee and will be the final model in the brand’s refreshed product lineup. The new SUV is expected to use the new 2.2-liter diesel engine from the Jeep Cherokee, which develops up to 200PS (197hp).
It will likely be offered with a range of smaller petrol and diesel units from the Fiat Group, including the 1.4-liter turbo petrol from the 500X and the 1.6- and 2.0-liter diesels. Like the Cherokee, the Compass will also offer the choice of two- or four-wheel drive, as well as manual and automatic transmissions.
As previously reported, Jeep’s C-segment SUV will replace both the current Compass and Patriot models and will be based on a stretched version of the platform that underpins the Renegade.
Besides the C-segment SUV and a possible range-topping Grand Wagoneer model rumored for 2018, Jeep has no plans to enter new segments, at least for now.
