Even though you’ll generally find skilled drivers on the Nurburgring, not everyone can say that they’d be able to keep a supercar in sight, while behind the wheel of a hot hatch.

That’s exactly what happens in this video, where the driver of this Renaultsport Megane R.S 250 M3RS CUP races its wheels off, chasing that 458 Speciale (you can tell it’s the Speciale from the exhaust tips) the entire way.

I would however question just how hard the Ferrari driver is pushing his car, because this video doesn’t really make a lot of sense on paper. I drove the Megane RS 275 Trophy and even though it’s an absolutely brilliant car with tremendous handling and agility, there is no freaking way it could keep up with a 605 PS 458 Speciale, that actually weighs about as much as the Renault!

Of course I’m attributing what I’m seeing to the skill of the person behind the wheel of that Megane RS, but the Ferrari driver is seen braking too early a few times, and isn’t carrying as much speed as he should in certain corners.

Naturally, there’s also a lot of traffic on the Ring, which actually makes things easier for the car doing the chasing.

With all things being equal, there’s almost a half a minute difference in lap times between the Megane RS and the 458 Speciale.

So again, on paper this should have been a layup for the Ferrari, but add traffic and a more experienced and motivated driver behind the wheel of that Megane, and it explains everything.
