While in Europe the Ford Focus RS is already in its third generation, the United States will get the high-performance Focus for the first time ever early next year. However, for those who know where to look, older Ford Focus RS models can be found in the US as well. Take this second-generation, 2010 Focus RS advertised on eBay.
The seller says it is the only Focus RS you can find for sale in North America, but doesn’t say how the car was brought to the US and, more importantly, whether it can be driven on public roads.
Located in Middlebury, Vermont but sold with an Arizona title, the hot hatchback has purportedly covered only 14,740 miles (23,287 km) from new. Focus RS-specific features include Recaro Leather bucket seats, black alloy wheels shod with BF Goodrich G-Force tires, blue-painted calipers and a massive rear spoiler.
Under the hood sits a Volvo-sourced 2.5-liter inline five-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that produced 305PS (301hp) in standard guise. However, the seller claims the car features performance upgrades including a Garrett GTX35 turbo, TiAL MVR external wastegate, big valves, aluminum manifold, Helix 6-pad clutch, Stage 4 intercooler and radiator and more. Together these are said to generate more power, although an exact number is not provided.
Even without the upgrades, the second-generation Ford Focus RS was a really quick hot hatch, sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.9 seconds and reaching a top speed of 263 km/h (163 mph). Obviously, owning one of these very rare cars in the US would be sweet, but one should not hasten with the acquisition until he or she knows for sure that the car can be legally driven on US roads. Especially since the starting bid is $35,000 – bear in mind that for a similar amount of money you could get the brand new Focus RS.
