Only a thin plastic wrap placed on the rear quarters of this Mercedes-AMG S63 Convertible separates us from the production version that will follow in the coming months.
As with the coupe and sedan iterations of the S63 AMG series, the Convertible will get a 5.5-liter V8 biturbo unit delivering 577hp (585PS) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque hooked up to an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed transmission.
It’s very likely that Mercedes will offer the car in both rear- and all-wheel drive configurations – at least outside of North America.
If for whatever reason those numbers don’t excite you, Mercedes’ biggest and most luxurious convertible will also be available in S65 AMG trim with a 6.0-liter V12 twin-turbo engine producing 621hp (630PS) and a colossal 738 lb-ft (1,000Nm) of peak torque.
Both AMG models dress their bodies in a sportier kit with a different front bumper featuring larger air-vents for the turbocharged units, beefier side skirts, a rear diffuser with quad pipes on the corners and bigger wheels, with Mercs’ performance arm also tweaking the chassis and the interior of the cars.
The S-Class Convertible will join the aristocracy of open top models with members such as the Bentley Continental GTC and Rolls Royce’s upcoming Dawn cabriolet.
