If you’re after a city car that can’t decide whether it’s a crossover or hot hatch, the Opel Adam Rocks S may be your only choice (at least for the moment).

Opel has begun taking orders for the Adam Rocks S in Germany, where prices start from €19,990 ($22,135), including VAT.

For this amount of money, customers will get a cross between the Adam Rocks and the Adam S that combines rugged looks with a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 150PS (148hp) and 220Nm (162lb-ft) of torque, and a performance chassis.

Mated to a short ratio 6-speed manual gearbox, the engine allows the Adam Rocks S to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.5 seconds and from 80 to 120 km/h in 5th gear in 7.9 seconds, with top speed rated at 210 km/h (130 mph). Average fuel consumption is 5.9 l/100 km (48.9 mpg UK or 39.8 mpg US), corresponding to 139 g/km of CO2.

Compared to the Adam Rocks, the Adam Rocks S sits 15mm (0.59in) closer to the ground thanks to the performance chassis. Combine that with the high-performance brakes and the possibility to switch off the ESP system and the city car promises a decent amount of fun for the driver.

Just like all other Adam models, the Adam Rocks S is available with the IntelliLink infotainment system as well as the Opel OnStar personal connectivity and service assistant. OnStar is offered as standard for the trim levels Adam Glam and Adam Slam.
