Bentley is looking to expand its line-up with a fifth model. The only problem is that, the British car manufacturer doesn’t know exactly what sort of niche to fill.
The Exp 10 Speed 6 concept-car that debuted at Geneva has acquired numerous fans and followers, but a smaller, cheaper SUV than the Bentayga could bring more income to the company.
According to Autocar, the Volkswagen owned car manufacturer doesn’t have the resources to build both automobiles, as Wolfgang Durheimer, Bentley boss stated:
“We can’t do both those cars at the same time, because Bentley is still a small company and our resources are very stretched. We are doing the studies for both those models and then we will decide on the fifth model” […]” We have to see if we now need an SUV one size smaller than the new Bentayga.”
That means the prestigious marque has to decide whether it will throw the EXP 10 Speed 6 project in the bin and concentrate on a Sport Utility Vehicle, or vice-versa.
A potential road-going variant of the EXP 10 Speed 6 will be entirely different from the Continental line-up and the concept has received extremely positive feedback from journalists and potential customers, as Wolfgang Durheimer continued: “We have asked our customers and they have said about the Speed 6 ‘just build it!”
Furthermore, the magazine stated that Bentley’s technical director, Rolf Frech, says that Bentley is “open” to a convertible version of the Speed 6, but that decision hasn’t been taken yet.
Regardless of the conclusion, the future automobile won’t be available until 2020/21.
