Renault has chosen the name “Talisman” for its upcoming D-segment mid-size sedan that will replace both the Laguna and Latitude.

According to the French carmaker, it’s “a charismatic name that conjures up notions of both protection and power. At the same time, TALISMAN is an easy word to pronounce and understood the world over”.

If it rings a bell, that’s because Renault has used it in the not so distant past on the China market version of the Samsung SM7.

Together with the announcement on the name, Renault confirmed the debut date for the mid-size sedan on July 6, 2015, and shared a video that shows some bits and pieces of the car.

A rival to the Mazda6, Ford Mondeo and VW Passat, the new Talisman will be a global model featuring a sportier and more characterful design than the Laguna. An estate version should follow the sedan, which will likely have its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
