Four years after opening its first retailer, McLaren Automotive has already posted its second consecutive year of profitability, thanks to an 18 percent increase in sales in 2014 compared to 2013. McLaren calls this achievement “unprecedented in today’s motor industry” and they’re probably right.
The sports car manufacturer has also recorded its fourth year of sales growth and expects the trend to continue following the launch this year of four new models (570S, 540C, 675LT and P1 GTR) – two of which are already sold out (675LT and P1 GTR).
And new models will continue to come. McLaren said it will add two new body styles to its entry-level Sports Series lineup – most likely Spider versions of the 570S Coupe and 540C Coupe. The first one will be introduced in 2016, followed by another in 2017. By then, McLaren forecasts the Sports Series range will more than double its production output to around 4,000 units a year.
“This number, while deliberately small in industry terms, will allow McLaren to thrive and is in line with the wish of its clients that its products should forever remain a rare sight to protect not just the brand’s exclusivity but also the investment of owners,” McLaren says in the press release.
The company also reassured fans that it will remain “a British based manufacturer of luxury sports cars, and only luxury sports cars.”
