One of the coolest things about high-end BMWs is that you can practically get them in any color you want…probably because one of the worst things about BMWs is the limited choice of standard colors.
It all starts to make sense once you visit BMW‘s site, see their optional offerings, and learn how much they charge you for them.
In the case of the F80 M3 sedan in the States, the only free color is the non-metallic Alpine White, with the regular metallic shades – all six of them – priced at $550. Opt for the available Individual collection of four colors (Tanzanite blue, Pyrite Brown, Azurite Black and Moonstone), and you’ll pay $1,950.
Here’s the thing; BMW also offers an almost infinite palette of paints through their Individual program, but to get something other than the four choices available on their standard list for the M3, first you have to find a dealer who knows their Individual stuff, then convince BMW, before they charge you a ridiculous amount that depends on if they offer that color elsewhere or if they have to create it.
Pricing for non-listed Individual colors doesn’t seem to be standard, but we’ve heard of owners paying upwards of $4,000 and $5,000 for existing shades, and even over $10,000 for fancier unique colors.
A member of the Bimmerpost forums ordered what could very well be the only F80 M3 in BMW Individual’s Ruby Black color in the USA, which is a special order for the series, even though you can get it on the 6-Series and 7-Series models via their standard Individual program. It’s a very dark burgundy shade, which probably isn’t very photogenic, but it looks pretty good in person.
