Owning a supercar can be both fun as well as stressful, especially if you happen to be somebody who’s constantly worrying about his fuel economy.

But seriously now, “Honey, I bought a Lamborghini because it has really good fuel economy” sounds way too funny for you not to try out on your girl friend/wife. Except that in this case, it’s no joke – at least if you consider what most other supercars (or powerful cars in general) manage in terms of fuel economy.

According to Emissions Analytics, the Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 bested its official fuel economy figure by 11%. That’s pretty impressive coming from a 5.2 liter, 610 HP engine.

During the test, the Huracan delivered the equivalent of 21.2 mpg (17.7 US gallon mpg) or 13.2 liters/100km, which really is better than its official figure of 19.2 mpg (16 mpg US – 14.7 liters/100km).

The Huracan was evaluated as part of Emissions Analytics’ long term project, measuring a wide range of vehicles on US roads with the help of Motor Trend magazine. The Italian thoroughbred proved to be more economical than the Camaro ZL1, Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG, Cadillac Escalade and Range Rover V6 Supercharged.

Nick Molden, CEO of Emissions Analytics said that “Big-displacement, high-performance cars are designed to be light and efficient, as that relates directly to outright performance. These cars are designed to extract the most from every gallon of fuel and it’s not too surprising that they’re capable of delivering reasonably good fuel economy when driven in certain conditions.”

While that is true, it doesn’t mean that you, as a supercar owner, will constantly drive within certain parameters – in fact, you probably won’t.

And while we do respect the Huracan for its performance and now its fuel economy as well, we’d like to see how it compares to its direct rivals from this perspective. Huracan vs. Range Rover is too “apples to oranges” when doing a fuel economy test.

How about pitting it against a 488 GTB? On paper, the Ferrari should be able to save a little more fuel.
