In case you’ve ever wondered how the fastest Audi A3 in the world compares to the 2nd fastest one, well, here’s a pretty straight forward acceleration test that should put your mind at ease.
But before we get into who did what, let’s check out the two cars.
The Audi RS3 Sportback uses a 2.5 liter TFSI engine, good for 367 PS and 465 Nm (342 lb-ft) of peak torque. Don’t ever think that’s not good enough, since this car can get from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.3 seconds.
As for the S3, it’s got a 300 PS 2.0 liter TFSI engine, which also puts down 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque. In this video, they used the Sedan version of the S3, which can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.9 seconds.
Now that we’ve got the numbers down, let’s pay close attention and see what happens once they launch themselves towards 200 km/h (124 mph).
Did you watch it? Good, because at first you may be tricked into thinking that there isn’t much between them at first, but make no mistake, the RS3 is a lot quicker.
The S3 does close the gap a bit while the RS3 is still shifting – like when one is doing 52 km/h (32 mph) and the other is doing 56 km/h (34 mph). If the camera angle would have been different, you would have been able to see much the RS3 would pull ahead, constantly.
When the RS3 finally hits 200 km/h (124 mph), the S3 Sedan is doing 179 km/h (111 mph). Even though on paper it doesn’t look like much of a difference, distance-wise it would be quite a sizable one.
