The number 21 Nissan GT-R LM Nismo, one of three LM P1 cars to be entered by the Japanese automaker at the Le Mans 24 Hours on June 13, will feature a very special livery.
The paint scheme is a tribute to the Nissan R90CK Group C race car which Mark Blundell put on pole position at Le Mans in 1990 with a stunning 3:27.020 lap of the Circuit de la Sarthe.
The No. 21 Nissan GT-R LM Nismo will be driven by current Super GT Champion Tsugio Matsuda and two winners of GT Academy, Lucas Ordóñez and Mark Shulzhitskiy.
The No.24 Nissan R90CK will also make an appearance at Le Mans in a special parade to mark the anniversary of the pole lap, with Mark Blundell once again behind the wheel. While he will not take the 1,100hp car to speeds of up to 366 km/h (227 mph) as in 1990, Blundell says he’s looking forward to driving the R90CK again.
“That lap of Le Mans is certainly a very fond memory for me. It was one of those moments where time stood still and everything went perfectly. You remember those moments, as they don’t happen all that often. It’s great to see Nissan celebrating that time with the retro livery on the #21 Nissan GT-R LM NISMO. I can’t wait to see it on track at Le Mans,” Blundell said.
The three Nissan GT-R LM Nismo race cars will be on track at Le Mans this Sunday for the official Test Day. It will be the first time the cars will run at Le Mans and the first time they will run alongside all of the other Le Mans entrants.
