Aston Martins are supposed to be long legged sports-touring cars, so they should have no trouble being excellent day-to-day companions. You pay a lot for these cars, money that could go towards a more mainstream car that’s probably better in every single way bar image and curbside kudos.

CarThrottle drove an Aston Vanquish through the city, on the motorway and on country lanes to see if it’s actually okay to live with every day.

Surprisingly, the car proved itself and had it not been for the apparently uncomfortable seats, it would have been laurels all round for it by the end of the test. It even surprised with how little fuel it used overall and just how little of it used while on the motorway.

More importantly, one older niggle that Astons with an automatic gearbox had was occasional jerkiness and lurching forward or back when setting off on inclines. This issue has apparently been addressed, thanks to a new eigh-speed single-clutch unit that according to this video review does everything right and is a huge improvement over what they had before.
