The Nomad is arguably the best and most rounded vehicle that Ariel has ever built. We know it’s a hoot to drive on the road, even with long suspension travel and quite a bit of body movement under braking and cornering, but it’s also supposed to be pretty good off it.
Top Gear magazine tried it out on grassy, muddy and uneven ground, and it seemed to perform quite well. You can really see how much the suspension is working on it – being an Ariel, you can genuinely see every mechanical rod and linkage doing its thing.
Previous Ariel vehicles had very limited usability, whereas the Nomad is much closer to allowing you to use it every day. It all depends on where you live and whether or not you like the fully-exposed character of the car; if you do and don’t mind the occasional stone in the face, then it could be the perfect weekend sports-off-road car.
