Toyota has released all the details about the refreshed Avensis, along with the first photos of the interior.
The facelifted Avensis now comes with a reworked cabin and new engines while the new styling matches now the rest of the Toyota range.
New LED headlights, different bumpers and bonnet and reshaped LED rear lights are now included into the styling changes while the interior now offers better NVH levels, ergonomics and connectivity options.
Toyota has now added the Safety Sense into the new Avensis, which is a integrated package of active safety electronic systems, as standard. The package includes a Pre-Collision system which detects impact risks with vehicles ahead and transmitting audible and visual warnings and primes the brakes for better stopping force. If the driver doesn’t respond to this, the system will apply the brakes to reduce the vehicle’s closing speed.
Other systems included are a lane-departure warning, an automatic high-beam function and the Road Sign Assist which reads the signs on the side of the road and displays the information on the new TFT screen, placed in the instrument binnacle.
The engine range now benefits from two new diesel units, sourced from BMW. The first is a 110hp 1.6-litre D-4D with 270Nm (199lb-ft) of torque from 1,750 to 2,250rpm which replaces the previous 2.0-litre, and returns 68.9mpg UK and 108g/km CO2. The second is a 141hp 2.0-litre D-4D with 320Nm (236lb-ft) of torque, replacing the 2.2-litre unit and now allowing the Avensis to return 62.8mpg UK and 119g/km CO2.
The rest of the engine range has been updated for better efficiency, reducing their CO2 emissions.
