In regular trim, the second-gen Mercedes-Benz CLK isn’t what you call an enthusiast’s car, but all that changes with the CLK 63 AMG Black Series (more so with the even rarer CLK DTM AMG).
Available only as a coupe, the CLK 63 AMG Black Series was related to Merc’s CLK-based F1 safety car at the time, fitted with an improved version of AMG’s inexhaustible 6.2-liter V8 gaining 26hp for a total of 500hp (507PS) and 465 lb·ft (630 Nm) of torque.
Power was routed to the rear wheels through a faster AMG-spec 7-speed automatic transmission, with Mercedes quoting a 0-100km/h time of 4.3 seconds (0-60mph in 4.1 sec) and a limited top speed of 300km/h (186mph).
AMG didn’t stop there gifting the Black Series with a tweaked chassis, a wide body kit with bloated wheel arches, model-specific 18-inch alloys and just to make sure that you know there’s something different going on with this CLK 63 AMG from the inside, they added an Alcantara flat-bottomed steering-wheel, front sport seats and ditched the rear seats altogether.
The one we discovered on eBay is a 2008 model claimed to be “1 of 40 ever made in white” with some aftermarket accessories like the roll bar, MACarbon steering wheel and trim, Renntech carbon front splitter (not installed), and an Evoms tune said to increase power to 600hp.
It has 19,500 miles (31,375km) on the odometer with the seller asking for $85,000, which may sound like a lot, but it could be a bargain when looking back 10 years from now.
