Opel and Vauxhall have officially confirmed that the next-generation Astra will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Opel CEO Karl-Thomas Neumann said the automaker’s 11th generation compact car will be efficient, lightweight and spacious.
Furthermore, the executive said the new Astra will feature “an awesome design” and an abundance of innovations. Neumann was photographed standing next to a camouflaged all-new Astra and from these front angles the car appears to have similar proportions as the current model.
The Opel CEO says the new Astra is a revolutionary car that is much more efficient in all respects. While it will be slightly smaller on the outside, passenger space will be increased substantially. Weight has been reduced “dramatically,” resulting in a more agile and fuel efficient car. The executive also confirmed that the new Astra will be powered only by state-of-the-art engines of the new generation.
Opel has produced so far more than 24 million Kadett and Astra compact models. “With each Kadett generation, Opel made individual mobility accessible to millions of people around the world, and several generations of Astra have brought innovative technologies from the upper class into the affordable compact segment,” said Neumann.
“The new Astra will once again set standards in the compact class. Amongst others, it will be the first new Opel model to be launched with Opel OnStar’s unique connected service that is ready to help and rescue you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year,” the executive added.
