Even though we’re analogue creatures, we live in a digital world, so it’s no surprise that carmakers are adjusting the way we interact with our vehicles.

Touchscreens are the new norm for center consoles and Renault’s Laguna replacement will come with a tablet-like display similar, if not identical, to the one utilized on the new Espace minivan.

While the 8 to 9 inch vertically mounted touchscreen that will control just about everything through swiping, from the navigation to the head-up display and from the air-conditioning to the driving modes, was covered on the pre-production prototypes, our spies caught another Renault test-mule (pictured above) with the screen in common view mounted on an older dashboard for testing purposes.

Renault’s new sedan will reportedly replace both the Laguna and the Korean-made Latitude, possibly gaining a new name in the process.

Besides the modern interior, the Laguna’s successor will have a sportier profile than before with a very low front end and a sloping rear windshield as Renault will try to position the car towards the more premium models in the segment. An estate version will follow within the next year after the presentation of the sedan this summer.

Under the hood, the mid-size model will get an assortment of turbocharged diesel and petrol units, including a 1.6-liter petrol with 200PS (197hp) hooked up to Renault’s 7-speed EDC dual clutch transmission.
