Mercedes is about to unveil the proper production version of the GLK successor which will use the GLC nameplate but before giving us the real deal, they displayed its sportier derivative in concept form at Shanghai.

The GLC Coupé follows the same recipe with its bigger brother, the GLE Coupé, with the styling pointing directly at BMW’s X4. The twin-blade grille, the low roofline and the four pipe exhaust system are just some of the numerous design elements on Mercedes’ latest four-door Coupe SUV.

“The GLE Coupé shows just how convinced we are by the success of this vehicle concept, which is why we will bring further models to market that combine the look of a coupé with the versatility and off-road capabilities of a Mercedes SUV”, said Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Head of Mercedes-Benz, during the unveiling at Shanghai.

The concept is powered by a biturbo 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine which makes 367hp and 520Nm (383lb-ft) of torque, mated to the company’s new nine-speed 9G-Tronic gearbox with the combo expected to equip a future GLC 450 Coupé model.
