Volvo will add another plug-in hybrid model to its lineup at the Shanghai Auto Show with the S60L T6 Twin Engine.

Offered exclusively on the Chinese market, the S60L T6 Twin Engine follows the V60 D6 Twin Engine, V60 D5 Twin Engine and the XC90 T8 as Volvo’s latest production plug-in hybrid model.

Built at the Chengdu plant in China, the Volvo S60L T6 Twin Engine combines a 238PS (235hp) Drive-E four-cylinder 2.0-liter petrol engine with a 50kW (68PS) electric motor driving the rear axle and an 11.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

Total system output is 306PS (302hp), with a peak torque of 350Nm (258lb-ft) + 200Nm (147lb-ft), while CO2 emissions are rated at 49 g/km. The S60L T6 Twin Engine is also able to cover 53 km (33 miles) on battery power alone. According to preliminary data, the car is capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.6 seconds.

“We are delighted to signal the start of sales in China of our brand new S60L T6 Twin Engine. The Chinese consumer is ready for this product. Our offer of no compromise performance and efficiency, coupled with very clear ownership benefits, means that we are perfectly positioned in the growing plug-in hybrid market,” said Alain Visser, Senior Vice President Global Marketing, Sales and Service at Volvo Car Group.

Among the aforementioned benefits there’s the hard-to-get Shanghai license plate, for which the S60L T6 Twin Engine qualifies. Volvo says it will introduce two new Twin Engine variants every year in the near future. Sales of the S60L T6 Twin Engine start on April 22 in China.
