GM has issued a recall for 64,000 Volts, built between 2011 and 2013, following two injuries from carbon monoxide.

The injuries happened when the owners accidently left the car idling in electric mode, which eventually drains the battery and starts the petrol engine. “If the gas engine runs for a long period of time within an enclosed space, such as a garage, carbon monoxide could build up,” GM said to AutoNews.

These injuries happened despite the fact that the Volt warns the driver while exiting with a chime, if left with its systems on and running. GM has scheduled a software update to limit the amount of time the Volt can be left idling in the ‘on’ position.

50,249 of the cars are in the US with the remaining 13,937 to be in Canada.
