MINI isn’t leaving much to the imagination with its latest 2016 John Cooper Works (JCW) Cabriolet prototype that our spies spotted in Europe.

Coming later this year, the new Mini JCW Convertible uses the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four as the recently revealed JCW Hatch, packing 228hp (231PS) between 5,200 and 6,000 rpm and 236lb-ft (320Nm) of peak torque from 1,250 to 4,800 rpm.

Power will be transferred to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox or an optional six-speed Steptronic automatic. Performance should be a tick worse than the JCW Hatch that cracks 0-100km/h (62mph) in 6.3 seconds with the stick shift and 6.1 sec with the auto-box.

Chassis upgrades will include a firmer suspension with optional adaptive dampers, a retuned electromechanical steering system and beefier brakes from Brembo.

The telling spy shots show that it will also get the same meaty aero-kit as the tin-top model, featuring redesigned front and rear bumpers, side skirts, 18-inch wheels and twin, central-mounted pipes.
