New details have surfaced about Jeep’s Grand Wagoneer seven-seat SUV, with CEO Mike Manley saying the new model will go on sale in late 2018.
Envisioned as a rival for the Range Rover, Jeep flagship SUV will also be sold in Europe, Manley said at the Geneva Motor Show, adding that the engine lineup and prices are still to be decided.
However, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer is likely to share components with the upcoming Maserati Levante SUV. If that proves to be true, Jeep could pick some of the engines destined for the Maserati crossover, including 3.0-liter V6 diesels and a turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 gasoline.
Jeep’s decision to go upmarket is due to the increasing average transaction price of the Grand Cherokee, which suggests there is demand for a more premium model. Manley explained that Jeep has proven it can perform in the $45,000-plus market in North America, but right now it has only one model in the $60,000-plus market – the Grand Cherokee SRT.
Mike Manley also confirmed that Jeep will launch a C-segment SUV next year, which will be sold globally, replacing both the Compass and Patriot. The compact SUV will offer both two- and four-wheel drive versions. However, its design remains a mystery, as Manley refused to offer clues about it.
