Yes, you heard that correctly; there’s a brand new drift machine in town, and it’s called a Volkswagen Passat. Not exactly what you were expecting, is it?
To be honest, we’re a bit surprised too. The Passat isn’t exactly what you’d call the perfect drift car, especially since it normally comes with FWD and sometimes all-wheel drive.
Leave it to those guys to turn it into a RWD 900 HP monster. We can’t wait to check out the car when they finally stop teasing us with it and start showing us some images. Sure, we’ll “settle” for video footage of Tanner drifting too.
“My competition focus is on winning the Global Rallycross Championship for Volkswagen in 2015 but I’m also excited to be able to get back into drifting,” said Foust. “The fans, the tracks, and the driving in Formula Drift are really something unique in the world of motorsports and I’ve missed being part of it.”
Tanner will be making select appearances in the Formula Drift series on April 10-11 (Streets of Long Beach in Ca), May 8-9 (Road to the Championship in Braselton, Ga) and October 9-10 (Final Fight in Irwindale, Ca).
One thing is certain though. We can’t wait to check out his 900 HP RWD VW Passat – even saying it sounds weird.
